Project Overview: Victoria’s 30th Y2K Dance Party
Task: Design a motion-graphic, evite invitation to a Y2K-themed dance party. *Must also have music.
First, I met with Victoria to discuss the creative direction and create a mood board for the party. I sketched 3 design concepts, then opened Photoshop to start layering life. Victoria’s initials are “VL” — so naturally she loves the Louis Vuitton monogram print because it mirrors her initials. She wanted to incorporate it into the design in fresh, yet classic nostalgic Y2K fashion. I created custom holographic and hot-juicy pink backgrounds with a DIY LV monogram print overlay. I used the monogram overlay for both the main background and the CD-case cover background. I designed her name as a logo in an “airbrush t-shirt” script style, created a “Now That’s What I Call Music” inspired logo on the CD case to read “Now That’s What I Call 30”, sourced beautiful iridescent butterflies, and designed a custom-iridescent CD coming out of the case with handwritten text in a sharpie-style font for the party info (an ode to what all our burnt mixtapes looked like in the 2000s.)
Once the flat design was approved, I moved on to animation. From Photoshop, I exported each individual design element as a PNG file so I could give the individual elements a responsive, dynamic movement and/or micro-animation. For music, Victoria requested to use my remix, “Club Britney” — a dance track that samples 2 of Britney’s iconic Y2K hits, “Baby One More Time” & “Oops… I Did It Again”. Victoria loved the final designs and said that it was exactly her vision brought to life! The best response to hear as a designer :). I had so much fun creating this with her and would love to create more Y2K inspired projects in the future!
